What are your memories of Christmases past? It’s rare that I can remember the gifts that were exchanged or the meal that was eaten. They certainly had special significance in the moment. But when you look back you don’t necessarily remember the gifts. What I remember are the people in the room – who I spent Christmases with.
The Christmas story certainly has gifts being given, but it more has people exchanging relationship. Who you get for Christmas is more important than what you get for Christmas.
Who do you need to see this Christmas season? Who do you need to reach out to? Who do you need to have a conversation with? Let me encourage myself as I encourage you, don’t let another Christmas go by without being with the people you know you should be with or say the things that need to be said. The greatest gift you can give this Christmas is yourself.
Matthew 2:11
* They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
