All posts for the month March, 2014

The brokenness around me isn’t fading, it’s growing and I’m desperate for more of Jesus.

Adam and Eve at themselves out of house and home. Esau sold his birthright to his brother for a meal. Not, “I’ll do your chores for a week if you give something to eat.” It was “here’s my future.” For one meal.

Maybe something got caught in our DNA at the beginning that had to do with food. I love that so much of our lives are centered around meals and relationships. But maybe, just maybe – we’ve allowed food to steal our birthright; we’ve hidden ourselves from God in our food and our desires and our cravings. The physical, whether you’re a Christ follower or not, has become more important, more aware, more tenacious, than the spiritual.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. (Romans 12:1 NLT)

So, for seven days, starting Thursday, I want to challenge us to do something crazy. Not eat together. We are going to show God that we are desperate for Him, that we will do whatever it takes. That we desire Him more than we desire food or drink.

We are going on a hunger strike against hell. Through fasting and prayer we are telling hell: “No more. We’re done standing around watching our lives, our cities, our friends crumble. We are making a statement to God that we are desperate for His presence.
